Nurse Quality
While we were not very complementary of this facility's overall grade, it actually received an impressive grade of A in the area of nursing. When calculating our nursing ratings, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of the nurses. With 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the national average. Finally, this nursing home also performed very well in most of the quality measures we assessed. For example, it had a low number of residents sustaining both major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a middle of the pack grade in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of C. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the highly skilled nursing or healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. This nursing home's vaccination records were not as favorable as its nursing hours data. It provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 90.38461 percent of its residents. We would love to see some improvement herein this statistic in the future. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility received its next most favorable category score in the category of short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in this category, which is a respectable grade. In calculating our short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is typically a reliable measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 26.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients return home so this place is below average.
Facility Inspections
The final category we assessed was inspections. Unfortunately, this nursing home didn't receive favorable government inspection reports in recent years. As a result, we had to give it an F. For facilities with bad inspection scores, you should really scrutinize any severe deficiencies found on their recent inspection reports. This facility was assessed 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they caused a threat to resident safety or health. Lastly, we need to draw your attention to the fact that this place received large government fines in recent years totaling more than $100,000. This generally signifies that a poor performance has been an issue for more than one year.
