Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also awarded this facility a grade of A- for our short-term care grade. In crafting these short-term care ratings, we analyze the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.5 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next highest grade we gave this nursing home came in the category of nursing, where we gave it a grade of B-. This wasn't quite as good as some of its other scores, but a grade in this range is not the end of the world. Our nursing rating features many subcategories. The most important variable is the number of hours nurses spend with residents. This facility provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a somewhat uninspiring figure which is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at several nursing quality measures. While this facility got dinged a bit for nursing hours, it excelled in some of these quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it did remarkably well in this subcategory. This is often a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving patients more often.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest area was long-term care, which is the final area we scored. In this area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of just D. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to maintain residents' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 99.21875 percent of its residents, which is higher than the average nursing home. To our surprise, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than most nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
