Nurse Quality
In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. Our nursing grade is based on a variety of factors. The most important one is the quantity of hours nurses spend with patients. This place boasts a really impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which a significant percentage was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. This is one of the better totals of nursing hours we were able to find. On top of providing high levels of care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we looked at. With below 5 percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Pennsylvania in this category. This is often an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Many pressure ulcers can be prevented by offering better nursing care and having a policy of turning patients more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, this facility received dominant marks in the category of short-term care. Consequently, it received one of our most impressive grades in that area with a grade of A+. Our short-term care grades are based on the facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This includes a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. This facility is significantly above the national average in terms of its quantity of both registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients. It offered approximately 1.5 times as much care per patient from both of these care providers than a typical nursing home provided. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 53.2 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
Moving on to our inspection category, this nursing home excelled in that category, which is based on the facility's recent government inspection reports. In fact, we gave it an A for that category. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these issues by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed was long-term care, where this facility received a grade of A. This finished off a first-rate report card. Not many nursing homes earned an A- or better in every category. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of offering well above average levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 97.66355 percent of its patients. This percentage is also much higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this facility was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
