Short-term Care Quality
In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ short-term care grade. In the category of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. This facility excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we looked at. The facility supplied about 50% more care from registered nurses and physical therapists than a typical nursing home. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home with 83.4 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.
Nurse Quality
Another reason we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Our nursing grade assesses a handful of components, most of which are based on quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, which is among the higher figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by these statistics. On top of offering impressive levels of care, this nursing home also excelled in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. With under five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Many pressure ulcers could be avoided by offering better nursing care and having a policy of moving residents even once per day.
Facility Inspections
Continuing with its first-class performance, this facility also earned an A+ inspection grade. This is based on its recent inspection reports. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. Our inspection grades are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality

Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
