Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
An additional reason we graded this facility so highly is that it was awarded an A+ short-term care grade. This is flat out as strong as it gets in this category. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most important for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Remarkably, this place provides approximately 1.5 times as many hours of services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation with 67.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility received an impressive grade of A in our nursing category. The nursing rating is based on a number of factors. The most heavily weighted variable is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provided 4.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily, which is among the higher figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We were really impressed by these figures. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any facility in the state in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed was long-term care, where this nursing home was given an A. This topped off a very impressive profile. Only a select few nursing homes earned an A- or better in each of our categories. Long-term care scores in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the impressive nursing care provided by this nursing home, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is far higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
