Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we gave this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. We were not able to track down information on deficiency's for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home excelled in our short-term care rating. We awarded them an exemplary grade of A+ in this category. Short-term care grades are typically used to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. To offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 6.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

Turning our next area, this top notch facility also dominated in the category of long-term care. In this category, we gave it a A+. Very few nursing homes performed better in this area. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

In our final category, this facility also was given a first-rate nursing rating, with an A. This wrapped up an elusive straight A profile. We assessed the levels of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with patients, in determining our grade in this category. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good measures of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
