Long-term Care Quality
This place fared well in long-term care. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- for that category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. This is a reliable method to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Finally, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this facility had 2.74 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively minor. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is commonly employed to score a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to have high-end rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must offer higher levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the country in this area with 54.3 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
This facility's least impressive category is nursing, which is the last area we analyzed. We gave it a lowly F for this area. Even with multiple respectable scores in other categories, this score is still alarming so we wanted to point it out. Our nursing grade is largely based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. In addition to receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this nursing home was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
