Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a grade of C for our short-term care rating. Our short-term care ratings are important for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this place provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The tricky part is determining what bearing this had on the quality of care. The last measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Nursing ratings are primarily associated with a facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a somewhat concerning figure which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility surprisingly fared better in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In fact, it scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Facility Inspections
Sadly, this facility received a grade of just D in our inspection category. This is well below average grade. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. We would pay close attention to the level of severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home had 8 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Finally, we also would like to point out that this facility was assessed significant government fines amounting to more than $100,000. This typically means that a bad performance spanned several years.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the next area, this nursing home did not fare very well in this area either. With an abysmal grade of F in long-term care, this is really as terrible as it gets. For residents in need of a permanent place to live as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
