Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it actually performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that have too many deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only earned a grade of D for its long-term care score, which is actually one of its better category scores. Nursing homes that receive this type of score in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We were a bit concerned this facility provided the vaccine to just 70.03891 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had just 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
This facility ended up receiving rock bottom score in our nursing category. It received an F in this category. The nursing grade includes a handful of datapoints, but the most important one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This number is far below average. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing scores. This nursing home performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we scored was short-term care, where this nursing home was given a very poor score here as well. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. In determining these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to create a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. With a score this poor in this category, we weren't stunned to find this place was well below average in the two key staffing metrics we focus on. It provided far fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
