Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Neither this facility's overall grade nor its category scores gave us anything to write home about. Its best category was nursing, but even there it received a D. This is still a well below average grade. We looked at the levels of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses worked with residents, in calculating our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's second best category is short-term care, but it still earned just a D in that category. This turns out to be a relatively poor grade. Short-term care scores are critical for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires more highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a wide range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the measures we looked at. Frankly, this was what we expected here. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics sunk this facility's short-term care score.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

We wanted to note that this nursing home received an F for its inspection score. An F in this category is alarming because it usually points to red flags on the facility's government inspections. With places that received this poor of an inspection rating, we recommend scrutinizing the severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This particular nursing home had 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that suggest that they posed a risk to resident safety or health. Lastly, we also want to point out that this nursing home received large government fines in recent years of over $100,000. This often suggests that a facility's bad track record has been an issue for several years.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we scored was long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a very poor score in this area also. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is definitely a major disappointment. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in this category may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. After considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination data. Candidly, we were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated 78.67133 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is several points less than the national average. Surprisingly, this nursing home actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
