Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Although we gave this nursing home a terrible overall grade, we gave it a B for our nursing rating. In determining a facility's nursing score, we weigh the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving a resident more frequently.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Surprisingly, we gave this facility a C for its short-term care rating, which isn't a bad grade. Our short-term care ratings are thought to be most important for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We were surprised to find that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. In fact, it provided fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

Unfortunately, this facility only earned a grade of D for its long-term care grade, which is not an impressive grade. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the facility did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility administered the vaccine to just 55.805244 percent of its residents, which is a bit of a concern. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.05 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Turning our final category of inspections, this facility received a horrible grade. You should pay special attention to any deficiencies on a nursing home's inspection reports when it receives this bad of an inspection grade. We would scrutinize the severity of the deficiencies. This particular facility had a category G through L deficiency, which rank among the more serious categories of deficiencies. These categories indicate that the deficiencies identified by CMS had potential to cause actual harm to residents. Finally, we also want to point out that this facility received significant government fines of over $100,000. This often suggests that a facility's poor track record spanned multiple years.
