Facility Inspections
On top of being an elite nursing home overall, this facility excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned an A+. Few places fared as well in this category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in computing our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a score of A+ for its short-term care grade. Our short-term care ratings are probably more important for those requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Remarkably, this facility provides roughly one and a half times as many hours of services from physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we looked at. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Kentucky in this area with 62.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing score includes a number of factors. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spend with residents. This facility provided 6.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This was one of the higher totals we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering falls resulting in major injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home Kentucky.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the last category, this facility also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. This completed truly elite profile. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of offering well above average levels of nursing care, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients healthy. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
