While we were not high on this nursing home's overall grade, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with too many severe deficiencies flagged. While this place had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of C for that category, which is not a bad score. Our nursing score analyzes the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This place averages just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which is not an impressive total. Finally, although this nursing home got dinged a bit for nursing hours per resident, it excelled in some of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this statistic.

This nursing home's next best category was short-term care. We awarded it a grade of C in this area. This is basically a slightly below average score in this category. Our short-term care scores are arguably more important for people needing rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The question is whether this also impacted quality of care. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. In fact, we found that it was above average in this metric with 51.3 percent of its patients returning home.

Historical

The final area we graded is long-term care, turned out to be this nursing home's worst area. We gave this facility a D in that area. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 99.0566 percent of its patients, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.17 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric wasn't bad due to it having some more complicated patients.
