In addition to being a first-rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in the category of short-term care, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. In computing our short-term care grades, we look at a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This rating is often a useful assessment of a facility's rehabilitation. This facility is the gold standard when it comes to skilled nursing staffing. In fact, it supplied about 1.5 times as many physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical nursing home. The final datapoint we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in New Jersey in this area with 78.5 percent of its residents returning home.

Turning to the last category, this nursing home also performed admirably in the nursing category. We gave it an A in this area. This topped off a straight A report card. There are numerous factors included in this grade. Most of the subcategories are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This place provided 5.1 hours of nursing care per patient each day, which is among the highest figures in the country. A significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We are very impressed by both of these figures. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the percentage of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is usually a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented with better nursing care and having a policy of regularly moving patients to avoid bed sores.
