Facility Inspections
Although we didn't rate this facility favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it earned an A-. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a middle of the pack grade in the area of short-term care, with a grade of B-. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is considered to be a reliable measure of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. In fact, we found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the country with 55.2 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
We were surprised to find that this nursing home also excelled in nursing. We awarded it a grade of D for that category, which is one of our highest grades. There are numerous subcategories included in this grade. Most of these criteria relate to the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is slightly below average. In addition to receiving below average scores for total nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing scores. We looked at the percent of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this facility was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we analyzed is long-term care. This nursing home received a very poor grade of F in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is a bad sign for patient care and it may mean that the nursing home is not as well-staffed. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours is vaccines. We were a bit concerned this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 90.28078 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. Although it had 2.23 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted score wasn't bad since it had more complicated patients. This was its best score in this category
