Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Our inspection grades account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

In our next category, we gave this nursing home a rock-bottom F in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are thought to be more important for patients in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade in this range for this area, we weren't surprised to find that this nursing home was well below average in several staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar metrics was damning for this nursing home's short-term care score.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

Another concern is the F this facility received in the area of long-term care. When facilities receive a score in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated a relatively low 72.9805 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

Moving on to our next area, this facility really did not perform well in this category either. With a poor grade of F in nursing, this is really as terrible as it gets. There are several subcategories within this area. Many of the data points are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in computing our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home.
