Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid nursing homes that had too many severe deficiencies. This place received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of C for our nursing rating. Our nursing grade is largely associated with the facility's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, although this place got docked a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality metrics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this subcategory.

Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's third best category was long-term care. However, with a D in this area, it still fared relatively poorly. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility vaccinated 99.72145 percent of its residents, which is a very solid datapoint. Surprisingly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed was short-term care, which proved to be this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in this area. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a vast range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. With a score this poor for this area, we were not stunned to find this nursing home was below average in two of the key staffing metrics we looked at. The nursing home provided significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.6 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these subpar statistics doomed this facility's short-term care grade.
