Short-term Care Quality
In addition to earning a strong overall grade, this nursing home fared well in short-term care. We awarded it an A for that category. In our short-term care rating, we seek to forge a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. This nursing home excelled in two key staffing areas we assessed. It supplied about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than a typical nursing home. This is usually a very favorable sign. The final item we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that this nursing home was above average in this area with 51.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. Our nursing score includes several factors, many of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This place provided 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, which is among the better totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by both of these figures. In addition to looking at levels of nursing care, we also looked at a few quality measures in determining our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
Long-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our fourth area, this facility received a respectable long-term care score. While this is not as impressive as several of its other grades, this is still not a bad grade. In determining our long-term care scores, we assess the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's patients. After looking at the very respectable amount of nursing hours provided by this nursing home, we turned to the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.13043 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
