Facility Inspections
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically have few of these severe deficiencies. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its elite profile, this nursing home also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a score of A for the area. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are kept in good health. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 90.20771 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be a few points below what we expected but still a decent figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was short-term care. In this area, we awarded this facility a favorable grade of B. Our short-term care ratings are meaningful for patients seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who who were able to eventually return home from this facility. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.
