Facility Inspections
On top of being a strong nursing home overall, it also earned A+ government inspections in recent years. Its inspections are nearly perfect. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more important than the number of deficiencies, as some of these can be quite minor. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Among its many elite scores, this facility received a top-shelf short-term care score. In fact, it received a score of A in that category. Short-term care grades are often employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the overwhelming majority of facilities with 62.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. There are numerous criteria within this category. Many of these datapoints reflect levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Roughly a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled nurses. This is a high ratio of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by these types of nurses more in calculating our nursing grades. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to our next category, this nursing home also performed well in the long-term care category. We gave it an A- in that area. This rounded out a straight A profile. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia can be a dangerous ailment for nursing home residents so we prefer when a facility does not leave its residents vulnerable. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
