Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to point out that this nursing home earned near flawless inspections in recent years. We gave them an A+ in this area. Inspection scores are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Among its many high-end scores, this nursing home was given first-rate long-term care score. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that category. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.73404 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a proven method to minimize unnecessary hospitalizations for the senior population. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

The third category we analyzed is short-term care. Adding to its impressive resume, this facility also excelled in that area. In fact, we gave it a of A for that category. Short-term care scores are crucial for residents looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not appear that this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.5 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last category, this nursing home also was given a first-rate nursing grade, with a grade of A-. This finished off an elusive straight A report card. There are a number of criteria included in this area. Many of the data points relate to staffing levels. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed certain nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these metrics as good measures of the quality of nursing care offered, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
