One of the reasons this place ended up being a quality nursing home is that it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this area. Inspection scores weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This facility performed well in the area of long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that area, which turns out to be one of our most elite grades. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it's well-staffed and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 95.99198 percent of its residents, which is higher than the average nursing home. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. We assessed the qualifications of nurses at the facility, as well as the quantity of time those nurses were with residents, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving patients more often.

Moving on to the last category, this facility was given an acceptable short-term care score. Although this was not quite as elite as a few of its other grades, this is really not a poor grade. Our short-term care scores are considered to be more meaningful for folks in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more skilled nursing. This includes not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this area is the number of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
