Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this nursing home highly overall, we want to draw your attention to its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A in this category. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's next highest area is its long-term care score, where it received a grade of B-. Long-term care grades assess a facility's assistance with daily living rather than the highly skilled therapy and healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. After assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this facility vaccinated 98.59813 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 2.09 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this figure was not quite as favorable than its other scores in the long-term care area.
Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. With just 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below the national average. Finally, we also looked at some quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility was above average in two of the major datapoints we focus on, with solid scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These statistics are typically reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored is short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a bottom of the barrel score in this area as well. We gave it a lowly F in this category, which is obviously very concerning. In our short-term care assessment, we try to forge a fair barometer for rehabilitation. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 30.4 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
