Nurse Quality
We also wanted to emphasize that this facility excelled in our nursing score. We awarded them an A+ in this area. The nursing score weighs quite a few datapoints, most of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home offers an extremely impressive 6.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is among the highest totals in the nation. Lastly, this place was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. For example, it performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.
Facility Inspections
Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these end up being quite insignificant. This facility received 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning the page to our third category, this nursing home was given a strong short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in this category. In forming these short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The final measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. This place fared as well as just about any nursing home in Arizona in this area with 61.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we graded was long-term care. This nursing home received a very good nursing rating this year, with a grade of B. Although this was not quite as good as many of its other category grades, this is nevertheless one of the more impressive scores in that area. Nursing homes that do well in this category tend to provide patients with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 96.22642 percent of its patients, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. This place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 1.54 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
