Facility Inspections
To pair with its relatively modest overall score, we awarded this nursing home an A- for its inspection grade. This grade is far more impressive than its overall score. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. While this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This means that CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Nurse Quality
This facility earned high grades in our nursing category as well. In fact, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an C. Our nursing rating is mostly based on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages just 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low figure. Lastly, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is generally an indicator that a place has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. In calculating our short-term care scores, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. We were surprised to find that this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the final area, this nursing home received a decent long-term care score of C. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility administered the vaccine to a relatively low 74.64789 percent of its residents, which is somewhat alarming. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. This facility didn't excel here either, with 3.58 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this figure is quite a bit higher than the national average, this number may be skewed for some nursing homes due to the preexisting medical conditions of residents.
