Facility Inspections
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of A for our long-term care score. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. When computing a facility's nursing grade, we weigh the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the levels of training of those nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we scored is short-term care. We gave it an abysmal F in this category, which is a bottom of the barrel grade. You shouldn't simply disqualify a nursing home as a result of one bad grade though. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. In this nursing home's case, we found that it offers less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. The final metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 3.1 percent of its patients returning home.
