Although we gave this facility an awful overall grade, we awarded it a B- for long-term care. For prospective patients seeking a permanent place to live rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home vaccinated 95.180725 percent of its residents, which is a very respectable figure. This place was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

As it turns out, its government inspection reports were not the source of this facility's bottom of the barrel overall grade. In fact, it earned a C in this category. Our inspection grades are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are a key thing to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. This nursing home had 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were in categories G through L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to present an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Lastly, this nursing home was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. This is generally a really bad sign. We would never recommend this facility.

We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in nursing. We gave it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our best scores. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we weigh the amount of time nurses commit to patients and the levels of training of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. Many consider these areas to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

The next area we graded is short-term care, where this nursing home received a poor score in this category also. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is obviously a major disappointment. Our short-term care ratings are crucial for patients looking for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its score in this area, we were not stunned to find that this place was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the measures we assessed. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
