Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. These inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility was hit with 6 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to patient health or safety. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an B+. Nursing ratings are largely associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a facility has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we assessed is long-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a solid grade of B-. Our long-term care grades are more meaningful for residents requiring more traditional assistance related to activities of daily living. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated only 81.13207 percent of its patients. Fortunately, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we scored was short-term care. We awarded this facility a grade of C in that category. Our short-term care ratings are presumably more important for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we considered the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 4.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below average.
