Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a B- for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Another red flag is that CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.

Surprisingly, we awarded this nursing home a C for its long-term care grade, which really isn't too bad of a score. Long-term care grades are commonly used to grade a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing on the skilled nursing services offered by a rehabilitation facility. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this facility vaccinated 95.09537 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

We were stunned to find that this nursing home also excelled in the area of nursing. In fact, we awarded it a score of D for that category, which is one of our best scores. There are quite a few datapoints included in this grade. Most of the factors reflect nurse staffing. With just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The final category we scored is short-term care, ended up being this nursing home's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that area. In determining our short-term care scores, we size up a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This rating is typically a fair measure of a facility's rehabilitation services. Considering its score in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the figures we looked at. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This was not a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
