Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. The nursing grade assesses many subcategories, however, the primary one is the quantity of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be quite minor. This facility was assessed 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies an immediate threat to resident health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Turning to another strength for this facility, we gave them one of our stronger grades in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. In the area of short-term care, we try to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last area we looked at is nursing, was this nursing home's worst category. We gave this facility a grade of D in this category. This really is one of just a couple of weak points of a strong profile. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. We were a bit concerned this nursing home vaccinated just 62.5 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
