Nurse Quality

Grade: A

One of the reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of A. When computing our nursing ratings, we analyze both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a protocol of moving a resident more often.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

This facility also excelled in the area of inspections. We awarded it a grade of B+ for that area, which is one of our best scores. This is one of the few facilities with an overall score in this range which earned multiple category grades this high. Our inspection grades are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspections. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third category we looked at is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a solid grade of B-. In determining these short-term care ratings, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to devise a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last item we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 1.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is below average.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The last area we assessed is long-term care. We gave it a grade of C in that area. This is a fair grade in this area. If you are looking for services other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care grades. One of the statistics we considered after nurse's aid hours was vaccinations. Fortunately, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccination to 97.395836 percent of its residents. Lastly, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
