Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the area of long-term care. In a long-term care environment, the facility's primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 89.94083 percent of its residents, which is a few points below what we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

Adding to an already impressive profile, this facility also received virtually flawless health inspections in recent years. As a result, we awarded it an A+ inspection grade. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Compounding its high-end assessment, this facility also was awarded an excellent short-term care score, with a grade of A. Our short-term care scores are probably more meaningful for people needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 6.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last category we graded, this facility received a very strong grade of A- in our nursing category. With this grade, the facility completed a straight A profile. Our nursing grade focuses on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of skill of the nurses and the number of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
