Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' scale. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given an elite score of A in our short-term care category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B+. We assessed the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in computing our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This facility performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can frequently be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next category we analyzed is long-term care. We gave this nursing home an acceptable score in that area, with a B-. While this was not as dominant as several of its other grades, it is still not a bad grade. In our long-term care score, we focus more on the sheer volume of care offered by a facility, as well as some quality metrics. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
