Facility Inspections
One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is it earned an A+ in our inspections category. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Our inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility excelled in our long-term care rating. We gave them a dominant grade of A+ in this area. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 98.11321 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a life threatening ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.38 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
The third area we graded was short-term care. This facility received an impressive short-term care grade, with a B in this category. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This place outperformed the majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 51.5 percent of its residents returning home. This is a higher rate than most facilities.
Nurse Quality
The next area we analyzed was nursing. This facility was awarded an above average nursing rating in our assessment, with a C. Even though this is not as strong as a few of its other grades, this remains a respectable score for that area. In determining our nursing ratings, we analyze both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provides an impressive 4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. Lastly, we also factored in some quality-based metrics. This nursing home fared well in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. For example, in terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is often an indicator that a place has quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided with better nursing care.
