We also found that this nursing home excelled in our short-term care rating. We gave them an A+ in this area. Our short-term care ratings are critical for people seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered substantially more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who returned home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation in this area with 69 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.

This nursing home also received an A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing grades are largely based on the facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This was one of the higher figures we found. In addition, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. On top of offering high levels of care, this place also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, in terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls resulting in serious injury, this nursing home performed as well as any nursing home the country. Avoiding major falls is generally an indicator that a facility has quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.

We also wanted to emphasize this facility's nearly flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them a grade of B+ in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be relatively insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This tells you that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.

The final area we rated was long-term care, which ended up being this nursing home's least impressive area. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. Nevertheless, we would not judge this nursing home solely on a single bad area, as it received multiple impressive scores in other categories. For patients looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are very important. After looking at nursing hours provided by this facility, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Based on its grade in this category, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that this facility performed reasonably well both of these subcategories. Indeed, this facility vaccinated 98.69281 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this place also keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 1.05 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
