Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection ratings are tied to items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

In addition, we also would like to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given strong long-term care marks this year. We awarded them one of our more favorable scores in that area, with a grade of B. This proved to be the facility's second strongest grade. For long-term care residents, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 76.859505 percent of its residents, which is slightly lower than we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The next category we looked at was short-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B. It actually fared better than most nursing homes in this category. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for individuals in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The next area we rated is nursing, turned out to be this nursing home's worst area. We gave this nursing home a D in that area. This was one of just a couple of dings of a strong profile. The nursing rating considers several subcategories. The most important factor is the amount of time nurses spent with patients. This particular facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This statistic is well below the national average. In addition to receiving below average marks for total nursing hours, this facility was a bit less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents suffering pressure ulcers and found that this place was at approximately 1.5 times the national average in this metric.
