Facility Inspections
We would like to point out that this facility's inspection grade exceeded its overall grade. This facility earned a B+ in this category, which is a quality score. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
In addition, we also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home received favorable short-term care marks this year. We gave them one of our more impressive scores in this area, with a grade of B. This proved to be the nursing home's second best score. In our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a valuable measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home provided information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable category turned out to be its long-term care score, where it was given a B-. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Fortunately, this facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is a very solid total. Lastly, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
The last area we analyzed was nursing. This facility was awarded a grade of B- in this area. Nursing scores are primarily associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, although this facility got docked a bit for nursing hours per resident, it actually excelled in some of our quality-based measures. With less than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this subcategory.
