Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Inspection grades are tied to pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

We also awarded this nursing home a positive grade in long-term care. This nursing home earned a B in this category, which is one of our better grades. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to make sure residents are well cared for. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 90.909096 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat below what we expected but still a decent percentage. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of B- in this category. The nursing score is based on a handful of datapoints, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place provides only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a somewhat alarming figure which is well below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The next category we scored was short-term care. This nursing home was given a C for this category. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to gauge a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
