In addition to receiving a strong overall score, this facility performed well in long-term care. In fact, we awarded it an impressive grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. After we finished assessing the amount of care provided by nurses, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that area with an A-. Our inspection grades are based on datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area typically have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B+ in this area. In computing our nursing ratings, we weigh both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Switching gears to our fourth category, this nursing home received an excellent short-term care score. This facility didn't turn out to have any noticeable weaknesses. In crafting our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The objective is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of patients who were able to return home from the facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
