Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it earned an impressive government inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that category with an A-. Inspection scores account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid places with too many deficiencies flagged. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Despite this deficiency, this place still had a relatively positive report.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's second best score is long-term care. As it turns out, with a grade of D in this area, it still performed relatively badly. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to a relatively low 63.127415 percent of its residents, which is several points lower than we expected. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best feature in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Additionally, we gave this nursing home a rock-bottom F in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility offers substantially less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the last category, this facility didn't perform very well in this area either. With a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is about as terrible as it gets. Nursing ratings are based largely on quantity of nursing care available. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of patients experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
