Facility Inspections
In addition to earning a strong overall rating, this nursing home excelled in our inspections category, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. We gave it an A in this area. Inspection grades weigh several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher grades in this area typically have very few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A-. Our nursing rating is largely associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning residents at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home also received an impressive long-term care grade. Indeed, we awarded it an above average score of B+ in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.69565 percent of its residents, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a dangerous health condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed was short-term care. We awarded this nursing home one of our better grades in that category, with a B. Even though this wasn't on par with some of this nursing home's other scores, it is still a perfectly acceptable score. With our short-term care category, we try to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess a nursing home's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.
