Facility Inspections
Although we did not rate this facility highly overall, we want to draw your attention to its nearly flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Inspection scores account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
As it turns out, this nursing home only received a grade of D for its long-term care rating, which happens to be one of its better category grades. In a long-term care environment, the nursing home's primary goal is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we assessed the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is better than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home has fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.

Nurse Quality
Turning to the area of nursing care, this facility received a grade of just D in this category. Nursing scores are primarily tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This figure is well below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This place performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is short-term care, which turned out to be this facility's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a D in that area. Short-term care scores are meaningful for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires higher levels of skilled nursing. This means a wide spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. With its abysmal grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this place offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
