Nurse Quality
The main reason this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an elite nursing grade. In fact, we gave this facility a grade of A+. Our nursing score is based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of licensure of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. With 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this nursing home surpassed the overwhelming majority of facilities. Finally, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any nursing home the state in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a decent score in the category of short-term care, where we awarded it a B-. In calculating these short-term care grades, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who eventually returned home from the facility. We found that just 30.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable category turned out to be long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of C. Our long-term care ratings are more critical for residents needing more conventional assistance associated with personal care. This facility's vaccination records weren't as impressive as its number of nursing hours per resident. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 58.29596 percent of its patients. We'd like to see some improvement in this area in the future. Nevertheless, this nursing home keeps its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.45 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Facility Inspections
Moving on the final category of government inspections, we gave this facility a score of C for our this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but fortunately none were category J through L deficiencies. This indicates the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to put patient safety or health in imminent harm or jeopardy. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
