Long-term Care Quality
While this nursing home's overall grade was terrible, it actually didn't perform quite as poorly in long-term care. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B- for that area, which isn't bad. Unfortunately, this wasn't enough to salvage its otherwise poor profile. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's assistance with daily living instead of the highly skilled nursing or medical services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.16 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes.
Nurse Quality
We were also surprised to find that this facility received a decent nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of C in that category. Our nursing rating is primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based measures, such as preventing major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the metric of preventing major falls. This is often a good indicator that a nursing home has sufficient quality controls in place. Some falls could be avoided if a nursing home supplies enough nurses to assist its residents.

Facility Inspections
This nursing home's inspections also were not the source of this nursing home's horrific overall score. It received a score of C in this area. Our inspection ratings are based on several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these inspections. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. This place had 6 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but none were category G through L deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient health or safety. Unfortunately, we also need to draw your attention to the fact that this facility received significant government fines in recent years.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded is short-term care. This facility received an abysmal grade of F in that category. Our short-term care scores are meaningful for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Considering its grade in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this place was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected here. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 47.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
