In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this place also excelled in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our inspection grades are based on many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Additionally, we gave this facility a B in our long-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher scores. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After we finished assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 94.69496 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is very impressive. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a facility does not leave this to chance. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

This facility's next highest area was its short-term care score, where it was given a grade of C. Our short-term care grade is typically used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to have quality rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must have better levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. We were not able to locate registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this facility's residents returned home. At most nursing homes, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

The final category we graded was nursing, which is this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this facility a D in that category. Naturally, this score hurt the facility's overall grade to a certain degree. Our nursing score assesses the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of licensure of those nurses as well as the quantity of hours spent with residents. This facility averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is well below average. To go along with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating significantly.
