Nurse Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Our nursing rating focuses on the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.6 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is much more care than what is offered by most places. Finally, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we assessed in this category. By way of illustration, it performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care a facility provides.
Facility Inspections
In addition, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing these inspection scores. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. While this place had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at was long-term care. This nursing home was given a very positive long-term care grade, with a grade of B in the area. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the elite volume of care provided by aids and other staff at this facility, we also were happy with the facility's vaccination statistics. By way of example, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. We found that this facility had 3.23 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this admittedly wasn't as strong as some of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some facilities based on the preexisting medical conditions of patients.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we scored is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this facility a decent grade of B-. This was this facility's least impressive category. Short-term care grades are based on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a vast spectrum of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Finally, we considered the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 30.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home. This figure was actually well below average.
