Facility Inspections
While this facility's overall score was not a highlight, it did receive a very good score in the category of inspections. In fact, we gave it a B+ for that category, which is one of our better grades. Inspection scores account for several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with a bunch of severe deficiencies flagged. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is always a good sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given a strong grade in our long-term care category. We gave this nursing home a better than average grade of B in this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 86.3354 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat lower than we expected but still a decent figure. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of nursing care. The nursing grade is based on many datapoints. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spent with patients. This particular place offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This statistic is quite a bit below the national average. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility fared well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these metrics to be good measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded was short-term care, in which this facility received a bottom of the barrel grade in this category as well. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to create a sound measure for rehabilitation services. In this process, we assess the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last datapoint we assessed in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.7 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
