Long-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home really excelled in the area of long-term care, where it received an A+. Few facilities fared better in this area. When facilities receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 3.08 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. While this wasn't as strong as some of its other scores in this area, this statistic can be skewed for some nursing homes based on the medical complexity of patients.
Facility Inspections
Adding to its impressive profile, this facility also performed at a high level in the category of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with an A-. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. Our nursing rating looks at the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of skill of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides an impressive 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, this nursing home also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it fared as well as any facility the state in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these datapoints as good measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we assessed is short-term care, which is this facility's weakest category. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a bit concerning. Our short-term care grades are considered to be more critical for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents that returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 22.2 percent of its patients returning home. This was well below average.
