Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with better scores in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition, this nursing home received high marks in the category of long-term care. As a result, it received one of our most impressive grades in that area with a score of A+. When facilities receive this type of score in this category it is typically a good sign for resident care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 98.96104 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. The nursing score includes several factors. The most heavily weighted one is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning a resident more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The final category we scored is short-term care, in which this nursing home received a B-. This is this facility's least impressive area. This is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we looked at in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
