Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility has received near flawless inspections recently. We gave them an A+ in this category. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also want to alert you to the fact that this nursing home received an impressive score of A in our long-term care category. Facilities that excel in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. We analyzed the levels of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving residents even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the final area, this facility also received a first-rate short-term care score, with a grade of A-. This completed a very favorable profile. Short-term care ratings are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of skilled nursing services. This means a wide spectrum of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that returned home from the facility. We found that 4.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
