Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving an elite overall rating, this facility received an A+ inspection score. This is based on its recent government inspections. An A+ in this category is one of the highest complements we can pay to a nursing home. Our inspection grades are based on many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This nursing home was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This means that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This first-rate facility also performed well in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a score of A+. Very few facilities fared better in this category. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 99.4898 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Building on its high-end assessment, this facility also was awarded a superb short-term care score, with a score of A-. Short-term care grades are commonly used to grade a facility's performance with rehabilitation To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must provide better levels of skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final metric we considered in this category is the number of patients who who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

The final category we rated is nursing, where this facility was given an A-. This rounded out a first-rate report card. Not many facilities earned an A- or better in each of our categories. We scrutinized the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of time the nurses worked with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning a patient more frequently.
